Pete Kosek, assistant professor of mathematics at Sterling College, was given The William M. McCreery Teaching Award as part of the College’s Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 11, 2019. The award recognizes and encourages excellence in teaching and is presented to a faculty member whose efforts have provided noteworthy and innovative instruction to Sterling College students during the academic year. The award was established in honor of Sterling College’s fourth president, William M. McCreery, and has been awarded to one outstanding faculty member each year since 1977.

Kosek has taught at Sterling College for four years and is a leader on campus in several capacities. In addition to being an assistant professor, he is the assistant director of the Honors Program. He was also instrumental in the College’s signing pre-engineering articulation agreements with Wichita State University.

Kosek is described by students as engaging, saying “Even though the subject matter is often hard to understand, he has the ability to make this class interesting, exciting, and even fun.” Another said that because of this instructor, “my interest and excitement about math has increased while taking this course, and I attribute that to his instruction and genuine care about myself.”  

Kosek is best described by the faculty that teach alongside him at Sterling College as possessing the “extraordinary abilities to teach, advise, serve our students, and the honors program at the highest levels.”
