Composer Festival concert Oct. 30
Singing under the direction of award-winning composer Victor C. Johnson, the Sterling College Choirs will perform in the 8th Annual Composer Festival. Singing from a variety of musical genres, the 50-voice choir will perform at Sterling United Presbyterian Church on Monday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend this free concert. For those who would like to give a free-will donation to the Sterling College Choirs, there will be an opportunity at the event.
“The choirs are having a lot of fun with the music in this concert and are looking forward to performing under Victor’s direction. We hope the community comes out to enjoy this wonderful annual event that brings a new type of music to the community of Sterling each year,” said Marisa Callan, assistant professor of music.
Johnson began publishing work since his sophomore year of high school, 1994, and won his first award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers in 1997. Since then, he has annually won an award from ASCAP, and he has been the recipient of numerous other composition contests. Johnson has more than 250 octavos and choral products in print.
Johnson, a Texas native, where he attended the University of Texas at Arlington, majored in music education with a concentration in organ. He is in his 12th year of teaching at the Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts and as director of the Children’s Choir of Texas. He also serves as the minister of worship and arts at Shiloh Baptist Church in Plano, Texas.
