Troyer’s Book in 2nd Edition
Local author Ken Troyer recently augmented his book “Argumentation and Debate: A Strategic Perspective” with an addition of 83 pages spread throughout all chapters of the book. The 2017 update was finished by Troyer and Gary G. Harmon for increased usability in the classroom. Troyer, assistant professor of communications at Sterling College, reported that six colleges and universities have already agreed to use the text this fall.
“We received a lot of good feedback from professors using the book over the last few years and how they have enjoyed a straightforward text that deals strictly with the history of rhetoric, the origins of argumentation, and more contemporary forms of debate. Through our own use in the classroom, we found topics we would like to expound on to make the text even more user friendly. I think the updated version of the book will be well received,” said Troyer.
“Argumentation and Debate” was co-authored by Troyer, Harmon of Kansas Wesleyan University and Dr. David C. Bailey of Southwest Baptist University. Together the authors have over 100 years of experience in debate and forensics.
The Sterling College debate and forensics team has been ranked nationally in the top 25 for eight consecutive years under the direction of Troyer. In addition to teaching full-time and directing the debate and forensics teams, he is chair for the Department of Communications, Media and Theatre Arts.
