Three employees were honored for 15 and 20 years of service to Sterling College. Nancy Hicks, Janet Caywood and Deb Wiebe celebrated the achievement at the annual Kickoff Banquet on August 18.

Hicks, administrative assistant for the Sterling Teacher Education Program, began working at the College in 2000. She has a bachelor’s in elementary education, and she taught second grade and junior high and high school choir in Corona, New Mexico. This background, along with her management experience in business, has been beneficial to the education department.

“Nancy displays true servant leadership on a daily basis. From tracking student progress to maintaining the candidate database, she supports essential processes needed for accreditation and program improvement. Nancy works hard behind the scenes to coordinate our clinical teaching placements and teacher interview nights—all with a gracious heart and a kind smile,” said Terri Gaeddert, director of the Sterling Teacher Education Program.

Caywood, registrar, celebrated 20 years of service. She began as the office manager for the physical plant, moved to become the assistant financial aid officer and then to the registrar’s office. She began as the assistant registrar, and moved to registrar in 1998.

Dr. Ken Brown, vice president for academic affairs, said, “I am constantly amazed how such a regulation and process-heavy department like the Office of the Registrar is led by a servant leader that integrates faith, compassion and grace in all that she does. I’m proud to work beside Janet, to support her and her staff, and to call her a friend.”

Wiebe has worked as administrative assistant for the Athletic Department for 20 years. She is in charge of the daily operations of the department.

Athletic Director, Gary Kempf said, “Deb has been the heart and soul of our athletic department over the last 20 years. The kids love her, the coaches love her, and she brings an endless amount of history to our program and a wealth of knowledge. This is her ministry and she serves every day, and serves everyone who needs her help.”
