Sterling College graduate Ben Ray ’82 has been elected to join the College’s Board of Trustees. Ray is the pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Derby, Kansas.

“Ben will be a great asset to the Board of Trustees as they advance the mission of Sterling College. Not only has his family been a part of the College since the 1950s, Ben has remained involved since his own graduation. Whether he is serving on a volunteer committee or cheering on his children’s teams at athletic events, Ben is an advocate for Sterling and would love to see the College continue to grow,” said Scott Rich, president.

In addition to his role at First Presbyterian Church, Ray has also served as the chaplain to the Derby Police Department for the past nine years. As chaplain, he is available to the officers and their families for counsel, and he assists officers on difficult police calls.

Ray has also been involved in the development of the city of Derby. He was on the Process for Success committee, studying the community and its needs for new schools. He was co-chair for the $66 million city bond issue to make upgrades to the grade schools, the junior high school, and build a new junior high school. The committee continues to assess the needs of Derby as the community grows.

Ray and his wife, Tiffany ’89, have three children, Hayley ’16, Josiah and Isaac. Josiah will begin his senior year at Sterling College this fall; Isaac will be in eighth grade. Ray also comes from a large family of alumni. Ray’s father, Rev. Don Ray, graduated in the class of 1962. Ben Ray’s brother, sisters and several nieces and nephews have attended Sterling College.
