On May 5, 2016, the editorial staff of the Sterling College literary journal The Great Plains Review hosted a party at Broadway Market to celebrate the release of the 2016 edition. Featuring 24 students, alumni, employees of the College and Sterling community members, the 2016 GPR includes a variety of writing and artwork. The journal was compiled by students at Sterling College under the direction of Dr. Mark Watney, assistant professor of language and literature.

Head editor of the GPR, senior Alexis Rutberg, emceed the release party, introducing the published artists who presented their work. Rutberg has worked on The GPR for four consecutive years.

“It feels like a sudden gasp of air, and it feels like the tears tucked into the corners of a person’s eyes when they say goodbye to a close friend. I’ve had so much passion for this publication. I only hope it has affected others in the same way it has affected me,” said Rutberg.

This year’s GPR is the 20th edition of the publication and features 75 pages of literary works and art.

Free copies of the 2016 edition of the GPR are available in the Department of Language and Literature in North Kelsey Hall.
