Theatre workshop draws hundreds to Sterling College
Kansas high school theatre students learned a variety of skills and techniques at Sterling College’s Theatre Workshop Day on March 7. Approximately 350 high school students from 16 different schools participated in the event that included multiple workshops and a matinee performance of the musical “Chess.”
Attendees were given the opportunity to learn about acting, audition monologues, dance for the stage, forensics, taking head shots, improvisation, musical theatre singing, scenic painting, stage combat and sword fighting, stage lighting, stage makeup and costuming.
“This theatre workshop is a wonderful opportunity for area high school students to broaden their acting skills and learn new aspects of theatrical performance. We are thrilled with the support that high schools across the state have shown for this event,” said Kacie Hastings, arts and admissions event coordinator.
The schools in attendance were Campus High School of Haysville, Kansas; Circle High School of Towanda, Kansas; Clearwater High School of Clearwater, Kansas; Ellsworth High School of Ellsworth, Kansas; Goddard High School of Goddard, Kansas; Eisenhower High School of Goddard, Kansas; Goodland Junior/Senior High School of Goodland, Kansas; Hoisington High School of Hoisington, Kansas; Little River Junior/Senior High School of Little River, Kansas; Lyons High School of Lyons, Kansas; McPherson High School of McPherson, Kansas; Pratt High School of Pratt, Kansas; Salina South High School of Salina, Kansas; Sterling High School of Sterling, Kansas; and Wellington High School of Wellington, Kansas; and Barton County Gifted Services of Great Bend, Kansas.
