Sterling College welcomes two new faculty

Wednesday, December 16, 2015

In 2016, students will get to meet the newest members of the Sterling College faculty. Timothy Gabrielson will fill the position of assistant professor of theology and ministry beginning in the spring semester of 2016 and Emily Grace will be joining Sterling in the fall semester as the assistant professor of physics.

“The addition of faculty members brings an air of excitement to the beginning of the new year. These two professors will make great additions to their departments and to the Sterling College faculty as a whole. I’m eager to see the impact that these new professors will have on our students. Both of them are ready to impart knowledge and motivate students to be the best they can be,” said Ken Brown, vice president for academic affairs.

Grace’s background boasts experience in both physics and teaching. At Indiana University, Grace earned a M.S. in Secondary Education and a B.S. in Physics. She also holds a B.A. in Psychology from Bethel College. In the spring of 2016, Grace is expected to receive a Ph.D. in Physics from Royal Holloway University of London, where she has assisted in the teaching of multiple physics classes. Much of Grace’s research revolves around physics, particularly dark matter, but she has also completed research on the effects of popular media on students’ math and science anxiety.

Gabrielson specializes in Second Temple Judaism and New Testament and Christian origins. He is in the process of earning a doctorate in Judaism and Christianity in Antiquity from Marquette University, where he also teaches portions of classes such as “New Testament Overview” and “Introduction to Theology.” Gabrielson received his M.A. in Biblical Studies with an emphasis in New Testament from Denver Seminary, along with two B.S. degrees from Colorado School of Mines—one in Mathematical and Computer Sciences and one in Economics. Gabrielson also served for five years as the college pastor at the First Baptist Church of Golden, Colorado, teaching weekly lessons and organizing small group meetings for students.
