Kansas Attorney General to visit Sterling College

Tuesday, September 15, 2015

Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt will give a presentation to Sterling College students, employees and the public on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, at 7 p.m. The Attorney General will discuss the current state of law enforcement in Kansas and answer questions after his presentation. The public is invited to attend this event that will take place in Heritage Hall on the third floor of Cooper Hall on the campus of Sterling College.

“Hosting Attorney General Schmidt at Sterling College is a great learning opportunity for our students and a chance for the local community to interact directly with an elected official. Our criminal justice students will have additional time with the attorney general over dinner, allowing them to ask questions and hear more about the responsibilities of his job,” said Dr. Mark Tremaine, assistant professor of criminal justice.

Schmidt was elected attorney general for the State of Kansas in 2010 and re-elected in 2014. His office has “focused on prosecuting crimes against children, protecting senior citizens from scams and rip-offs, recovering record-setting amounts of money for Kansas consumers and taxpayers, providing quality legal services for the State of Kansas, and standing up against overreach by the federal government.”

Before his election to attorney general, Schmidt served as state senator for Southeast Kansas. He served as chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee and the Senate Majority Leader.
