Sterling College accounting graduates offered master’s opportunity at Emporia State
Sterling College graduates who want to become Certified Public Accountants in Kansas have a new graduate opportunity. The College has signed an articulation agreement with Emporia State University offering automatic acceptance of Sterling accounting students who meet the requirements of the agreement.
Emporia State University recognizes that Sterling College’s B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting prepares students for the Master of Accountancy program at Emporia State. To qualify, students must complete this degree with a 2.75 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale, submit a complete application to Emporia State and submit a recommendation from a Sterling College business professor. They must also score a 450 or above on the Graduate Management Admission Test or equivalent exam.
“The articulation agreement with Emporia State University offers a smooth transition for our Sterling College graduates who wish to further their education in the field of accounting, but it also establishes a partnership with an exceptional institution within the state of Kansas that we look forward to working with more in the future. We are excited to have this opportunity to offer to our graduates that wish to continue their scholarly work toward an advanced degree,” said Dr. Ken Brown, vice president for academic affairs.
The task force from Sterling College that initiated the articulation agreement process was led by Assistant Professor of Business Irene Barkman, CPA.
“I am so excited for this opportunity our accounting students have to attend Emporia State University upon graduation. Their master’s program prepares students to sit for their Certified Public Accountant exam in Kansas, so our students will not only have a second degree in their field, they will be prepared to earn their professional certification. It is my hope, and those of my colleagues in the department, that this will encourage more of our students to think about adding a concentration in accounting to their coursework while they attend Sterling College,” said Barkman.
