The Sterling College Concert Choir, Chorale and Highland Singers will hold their final concert of the season on Sunday, May 3, at 3 p.m. at the Sterling First United Methodist Church. The Masterworks Concert will feature the compositional work of Dr. Brad Nix with three additional works featuring a vocal performance by Dr. Laura Bateman.

Nix, an associate professor of music and composer, has resigned from Sterling College after eight years of service and has accepted a position as minister of music in Texas that will begin after the academic year ends. The majority of the songs performed will be works composed or arranged by Nix. He has dozens of pieces in print, and several of his works have been awarded Editor’s Choice designations.

Bateman, assistant professor of music, will leave Sterling College at the end of the year to pursue a call into missions. Bateman is the current chair of the Department of Music. She grew up as a missionary kid in Africa and has always been passionate about other cultures and traveling. Bateman joined Sterling College in 2011.

The final number in the concert, “Fanfare and Concertato on ‘Holy, Holy, Holy,’” arranged by Brad Nix, will feature all three Sterling College choirs, organist Ben Newby, and handbells by Pam Simpson and the United Methodist Church Bell Choir.
