Sterling College senior art show, “Communitas,” opens April 23
Four Sterling College seniors will exhibit their final collection of work as college students in a group show titled “Communitas,” opening April 23. Hannah Gardner, Cody Green, Shelby Huber and Stephen Newby will hold a reception from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery of the Art and Media Center where their work will be displayed until May 16. The Art and Media Center is located at the corner of 8th Street and Washington Street.
“The work in this exhibition is both visually and conceptually diverse, as it reflects each student’s distinctive process and voice. Over the past four years, our seniors have worked diligently to hone their craft and their ability to communicate in visual form, and it is gratifying to now see the result of their efforts,” said Hanna Kozlowski-Slone, assistant professor of art and design.
Gardner of Topeka, Kansas, will have a series of fine art photographs on display, focusing on the natural beauty found in Kansas. She will be graduating with a bachelor’s degree in art and design with concentrations in graphic design and photography.
Green of Wichita, Kansas, is a double major, earning bachelor’s degrees in theatre: performance and art and design: graphic design. His senior exhibit blends his two majors together in rebranding the Great Plains Theatre of Abilene, Kansas, through digital media, photography and illustration.
Huber of McPherson, Kansas, has won multiple awards for her oil paintings over the past two years. Her final show at Sterling College features a new series of oil paintings that focus on the beauty of the human face and combines “bold projection overlays.” Huber is graduating with a bachelor’s degree in art and design with concentrations in drawing and painting, graphic design, illustration, and studio art.
Newby of Columbia, Missouri, will display a series of digital photographs focusing on human diversity and individual beauty. He will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in art and design with a concentration in photography and a minor in psychology.
