Sterling College welcomed three new faculty members to campus for the fall semester. Classes begin on Wednesday, August 21.
“Once again, the Lord has blessed Sterling College with three new faculty members that are skilled, creative, servant leaders. Their individual education and backgrounds, paired with a focus on serving our students, will propel the classroom experiences for those we are here to serve,” said Dr. Ken Brown, vice president for academic affairs.
Sterling College has named Paul Brandes ’11 as the College’s campus chaplain.

Sterling College has named Paul Brandes ’11 as the College’s campus chaplain. Brandes previously served as the executive pastor for Christ Community Church’s Brookside campus in Kansas City, Mo. He began his new role at the College on August 1.
“We are excited to welcome Paul and his family to our campus community. He is highly relational and a great speaker and teacher. Paul will be a role model to our students and an encouragement to all Sterling College Warriors,” said Dr. Scott Rich, president.
Sterling College has announced the WE KAN Scholarship for western Kansas.

Sterling College has announced a new scholarship, the WE KAN Scholarship for western Kansas. The scholarship offers prospective students from western Kansas the opportunity to affordably receive a private college education. The initiative is the latest in the College’s goal of making education affordable and investing in Kansans.

Sterling College has announced its new director of development, Aaron Weber. Weber joins the College’s Office of Institutional Advancement where he will manage annual giving programs, including The Sterling Fund, and targeted campaigns for athletics, churches and companies.
Sterling College has named Sheila Bird as the College’s vice president for advancement.

Sterling College has named Sheila Bird as the College’s vice president for advancement as of June 1. Bird, who previously served as the associate vice president for advancement and director of planned giving, has worked at Sterling College since 2013. She moves into role with Scott Carter ’88 moving to the role of special assistant to the president for capital campaign and leadership giving.

Former Sterling College Board of Trustees member John Stevenson Wilkey ’67 of Sterling, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2019. Wilkey was trustee emeritus, having served on the Board since 2009.
Friends and family gathered to celebrate the achievements of 116 graduates.

Friends and family gathered in the Gleason Physical Education Center at Sterling College on Saturday morning, May 11, 2019, to celebrate the achievements of 116 graduates. The City of McPherson Pipe Band led the procession, and speaker, the Rev. Dr. Stan Van Den Berg, senior pastor of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, gave a speech titled “No Regrets.” The presentation of degrees followed with students walking the stage to shake hands with President Scott Rich, completing their time at Sterling.
Sterling College seniors Estephany Moncada and Jonathan Yelton were named the 2019 Outstanding Female and Male Graduates.

With years of hard work and service behind them, Sterling College seniors Estephany Moncada of Patterson, California, and Jonathan Yelton of Osawatomie, Kansas, were named the 2019 Outstanding Female and Male Graduates in conjunction with the Fran Jabara Leadership Award.
The awards are given to two students who exemplify outstanding academic achievement, leadership skills and involvement, and who portray an enthusiastically Christian faith. They must have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher and are voted upon by faculty and staff.
Pete Kosek was given The William M. McCreery Teaching Award.

Pete Kosek, assistant professor of mathematics at Sterling College, was given The William M. McCreery Teaching Award as part of the College’s Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 11, 2019. The award recognizes and encourages excellence in teaching and is presented to a faculty member whose efforts have provided noteworthy and innovative instruction to Sterling College students during the academic year. The award was established in honor of Sterling College’s fourth president, William M. McCreery, and has been awarded to one outstanding faculty member each year since 1977.
