Women's Soccer Loses in KCAC Semi-Final
Ottawa, Kan. - On Tuesday night in Ottawa, the Sterling College Lady Warriors Women's Soccer Team was knocked out of the 2010 KCAC Women's Soccer Tournament by Ottawa University 2-0. Ottawa used 38 shots with 16 being on target to overcome the Lady Warriors who played from the defensive end most of the match.
Paige Farmer, Sterling's senior goalkeeper, was tested early and often in the first half. Ottawa would take 22 shots in the first half with 11 shots finding the frame. Theresa Crane would score for Ottawa in the 39th minute off of a Stephanie Segura assist. Farmer would save 10 shots for Sterling in the half, including a penalty kick. In the last five days of the season, Farmer saved five out of nine penalty kicks. At the half, the score was 1-0 in favor of Ottawa.
Sterling would look much better in the second half. The Lady Warriors would threaten the Ottawa goal and put the Braves under some consistent pressure in the half. Karina Noah would get the only Sterling strike on goal in the half, forcing Ottawa keeper Lauren Peil to make a difficult save. As the Warriors pressured for the equalizer, Ottawa was continually looking for the insurance goal. Elizabeth Tapia would score that insurance goal for Ottawa in the 68th minute, sealing the game for the Braves. At the end of the game, Ottawa advanced the Final Round of the 2010 KCAC Women's Soccer Tournament by a score of 2-0.
With the loss, Sterling's 2010 record is finalized at 10-8-2. The Warriors finished in a tie for third in the KCAC Regular Season and were the fourth seed in the KCAC Tournament advancing to the Semi-Final Round.
