On Oct. 18, 2013, Sterling College faculty, staff, students and guests attended the inauguration of Sterling College’s 12th president, Scott A. Rich. The inauguration was held at 9:30 a.m. in a packed Culbertson Auditorium.
Nominated for his many accomplishments and contributions to his Alma Mater, Dr. Alan Cureton was awarded the 2013 Sterling College Alumni Award at the homecoming alumni banquet on Saturday, Oct. 19. Cureton is currently the president of University of Northwestern – St. Paul.
The Sterling College Homecoming court has been named. Homecoming coronation ceremonies will take place Saturday, Oct. 19 at halftime of the football game against Ottawa University.
Candidates are selected by fellow classmates. They must have at least a 2.5 GPA, be in good standing with the College and must be a senior or a junior who plans to graduate in the spring.
The Sterling College debate team competed against the top teams in the nation at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa., on Oct. 5-6. The Warriors selected this competition to have the opportunity to compete against the top team in the nation, Western Kentucky University, St. Olaf College, Hillsdale College, St. Anselm University, Ohio State University and many more.
The installation ceremony for Sterling College’s 12th president, Scott A. Rich, will be held in Culbertson Auditorium in Spencer Hall on Friday, Oct. 18 at 9:30 a.m. Rich will deliver his inaugural speech, “A Call to Extraordinary Service,” along with music sung by the Highland Singers and a charge led by Chair of the Board of Trustees Heather McCreery ’90.
This year’s Sterling College Homecoming celebration will include the opening of the annual faculty art show on Thursday, Oct. 17 from 5-7 p.m. The show will feature the recent work of Hanna Kozlowski-Slone and Daniel Swartz, assistant professors of art and design, and Joel Garrett and David Slone, lecturers in art and design. This come-and-go reception will include a brief talk from the artists at 5:30 p.m.
Twins are a rare phenomenon in the world, and according to the Twin Foundation, they account for approximately two percent of the general population. But at Sterling College in Sterling, Kan., twins account for six percent of the new students on campus – tripling the national average.
Sterling College Athletic Director Gary Kempf and Women’s Basketball Head Coach Lonnie Kruse announced today that K.C. Bassett has been named associate head coach of the Lady Warriors and successor to Kruse upon his retirement.
New water fountains around the Sterling College campus have two new features: a spout to fill up water bottles and a counter that keeps track of how many plastic water bottles are saved through using the fountain. After only being installed for a few months, the counters already read that Sterling College students have saved over 4,000 plastic water bottles from landfills.
The musical “South Pacific,” directed by Matthew Winning, assistant professor of theater arts, will open on Oct. 17 at 8 p.m. in Culbertson Auditorium in Spencer Hall. This family-friendly comedy, with music and lyrics by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, will run through Oct. 19.
