Sterling College welcomes new faculty
Sterling College welcomed nine new faculty members to campus for the 2024-25 academic year. Classes begin on Wednesday, August 21.
“We are proud to welcome these full-time faculty and clinical instructors to the Sterling College family, and we are looking forward to how these individuals will engage and interact with the students we are here to serve,” said Dr. Ken Brown, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the College.
Dr. Jennifer Bolton comes to Sterling as assistant professor of theology and ministry. Bolton started at UNC-Chapel Hill as a Biology major, but after interning for a year with Cru in Uppsala, Sweden, became a Religious Studies major, Biology minor. After graduation she spent the better part of ten years doing campus ministry in Uppsala, Sweden. During that time, she completed a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Regent College taking a mixture of online and in-person classes. Her dissertation was on secularism in Sweden. She then left staff with Cru and moved to Durham, England, where she completed her Ph.D. in Theology and Religion, with a focus on the Danish theologian, Søren Kierkegaard, and the intersection of his thought with practical theology.
Lesa Brown ’97 comes to Sterling as assistant professor of theatre arts – artistic director. Brown is thrilled to return to her alma mater. She holds an M.A. in Theatre Education from Northern Colorado University and has over 30 years of theatre, music, and art teaching and directing experience. She recently was an affiliate professor at Colorado Christian University, taught theatre at the highest-ranking school in Colorado Springs, and runs Awaken Creative Institute, a non-profit dedicated to helping theatre companies bring their communities together.
Dr. Rachel Danley comes to Sterling as assistant professor of biblical studies. Danley recently called Scotland “home,” but is now returning to her first home in Kansas. Danley earned her B.A. in Education from the University of Northern Iowa; she has an M.A. in both New Testament and Biblical Languages from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and recently completed her Ph.D. from the University of Aberdeen.
Sean Foster comes to Sterling as assistant professor of music. Foster specializes in vocal pedagogy and performance based on anatomy and physiology and how they affect sound. Working as a vocalist and a pianist, Sean has performed as a collaborator and soloist throughout the country. As a music educator, Sean has worked in classrooms of all levels, most of his work taking place in choral music at the high school level. Sean has degrees from Wichita State University and from Western Illinois University.
Kaylea Hein ’22 comes to Sterling as assistant clinical professor of athletic training. Hein graduated from Sterling College in 2022, majoring in Health Science and playing golf for Warrior Athletics. She then completed her master’s degree through Sterling’s Athletic Training Program, graduating in 2024.
Greg McGlynn comes to Sterling as assistant professor of theatre – technical director. McGlynn was born in Sterling, Ks. growing up on a farm nearby and graduating from Sterling College with a B.A. in Communications and Theatre in 1987, receiving a master’s in education from Friends University in 2004. Greg began his teaching career in 1989 at Eureka High School, in Eureka, Kansas. For the past 30 years, he has worked professionally as an actor, teacher and director of high school Theatre in Plano and Carrollton Farmers Branch, Texas, and Haysville, Goddard and McPherson, Kansas. Theatre Honors have included the Texas State Championship, MTW Jester Awards, Director of Kansas State and International Thespian Honor Shows and Kansas Thespian Hall of Fame inductee.
Christy Morrison comes to Sterling as assistant professor of accounting. Morrison has provided accounting and tax services to individual and small business clients through her work at various CPA and tax prep firms across Kansas and Oklahoma, and currently owns her own practice, Morrison Tax & Accounting, in Lyons, Kansas. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Sterling College, Sterling, Kansas; Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting) from Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas; Master of Science in Accounting from Western Governors University, Salt Lake City, Utah; and her Juris Doctorate from Mitchell Hamline School of Law, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Jill Rowland ’93 comes to Sterling as pro-rata assistant professor of health and human performance. Rowland is a 1993 graduate of Sterling College and joins Sterling after 30 years in public education. Her master’s degree is from Emporia State University in Health Physical Education and Recreation which she earned in 2001. Jill is hired as an Assistant Professor of Health and Human Performance. She has taught at Concordia Junior and Senior High School, Nickerson High School and Sterling Junior and Senior High School. She has taught PE, Health and Psychology in all the respective schools. She has coached a variety of sports but has had great success in her role as Sterling High School’s basketball coach with back-to-back state championships.
Anna Tremaine ’19 comes to Sterling as assistant professor of athletic training. Tremaine holds a master’s in athletic training from Indiana Wesleyan University (2021) and a B.S. in Athletic Training from Sterling College (2019). She also is a state and national licensed E.M.T.
