Christopher Stump, Salem, Va., had a specific idea in mind when it came to choosing an online college—one in which he could obtain a theological degree under the direction of a reformed theological perspective. While his search was somewhat difficult, he finally found Sterling College Online—a college that met all his criteria.
Sterling College announced Pastor Wayne Hardy ’75 of Tulsa, Okla., as the speaker for the 2014 Baccalaureate ceremony. His speech is titled “Remember Who You Are,” based on the biblical passage Colossians 3:12-17. The ceremony will take place Friday, May 16, at 7:30 p.m. in Culbertson Auditorium on the Sterling College campus. The event is open to the public.
Two Sterling College juniors, Taylor Stucky and Reid Goffigon, will perform recitals at the Sterling United Presbyterian Church on Monday, April 28, and Tuesday, April 29. The public is invited to attend both free events.
Sterling College students Mark Alan Hemphill, Kayla Van Nover and Cassidy Woodard will perform a joint recital at the Sterling United Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, April 22 at 7 p.m. Hemphill will perform the first movement of Haydn’s “Trumpet Concerto,” as well as some of his own compositions. Van Nover and Woodard will sing excerpts from musical theatre. The public is invited to attend this free event.
On Tuesday, April 15, the Sterling College Student Government Association will host their spring blood drive sponsored by American Red Cross. The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be parked in the lot between Thompson Hall and the Student Union from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Dr. William Brown, chancellor of Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio, will be the speaker for the 2014 Sterling College Commencement ceremony. He will be speaking about Matthew 25:14–18, and his message is titled “Slam Dunk Moments.” The ceremony will take place on May 17 at 9:45 a.m. on East Cooper Lawn on the campus of Sterling College. This event is open to the public.
“The Great Divorce,” a play adapted from the C.S. Lewis novel, will show April 11–12 at 8 p.m. in Culbertson Auditorium on the campus of Sterling College. The show will feature the final work of two seniors, director Kyle Davis of Hoisington, Kan., and costumes designer Megan Reed of Mulvane, Kan. The box office opens on show nights at 7 p.m. and doors open at 7:30 p.m.
Dr. Curtis Beechan, professor of chemistry at Sterling College, announced his retirement at the end of the 2013-14 academic year. This May will mark the end of his 27th year of teaching at the College.
A small plane flying low over the Sterling College campus caught the attention of several onlookers recently. The plane piqued the interest of College students and employees as it dropped several rolls of toilet paper and a package.
On March 24, the Sterling College Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics hosted mock interviews for the junior and senior students in the department. The experience simulated an entrance interview to a graduate program or work place.
