The Criminal Justice program at Sterling College hosted its annual career fair on October 24 in the Student Union on the College campus. The event featured law enforcement agencies from Sterling, Hutchinson, Wichita, Overland Park, and McPherson, as well as the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Sterling College recognized its Alumni Award winners for 2019 who were awarded at Homecoming on Oct. 10-12. The Distinguished Service Award was awarded to Robert “Bob” Thompson ’45, the Spirit of Sterling Alumni Award was posthumously awarded to the late Dr. Jamie “JC” Chambers ’83 and to the late Ronald A. Raglin ’84, and the Young Alumni Award was given to Kacie (Rogers) Hastings ’12.

How do you solve a problem like “Cinderella?” Freshening up a traditional storybook fairytale that the world has known and loved for centuries was the challenge facing the production team behind Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. The new Broadway musical version of the cherished classic will be presented by Sterling College Theatre as this year’s Homecoming musical on Thursday-Saturday, October 10-12 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 13, at 2 p.m., in Culbertson Auditorium on the Sterling College campus.

Sterling College faculty attended the CCCU Diversity Conference, which was held at George Fox University, on October 4-5. Dr. Glenn Butner, assistant professor of theology and ministry, Dr. Mark Tremaine, assistant professor of criminal justice, Professor Sia Joung, assistant professor of art and design, and Dr. Rachel Griffis, assistant professor of language and literature and director for the integration of faith and learning, were in attendance.

Living up to its claim of being “Kansas’ Largest Classroom,” this year’s Kansas State Fair saw the fourth annual High School Forensics Showcase, presented by Sterling College. The event was held on Thursday, Sept. 12, in the Hansen Auditorium on the fairgrounds and was hosted and organized by the Sterling College Debate and Forensics team. Over 300 audience members saw one or more of the three sessions that day.

Sterling College welcomed three new faculty members to campus for the fall semester. Classes begin on Wednesday, August 21.
“Once again, the Lord has blessed Sterling College with three new faculty members that are skilled, creative, servant leaders. Their individual education and backgrounds, paired with a focus on serving our students, will propel the classroom experiences for those we are here to serve,” said Dr. Ken Brown, vice president for academic affairs.
Sterling College has named Paul Brandes ’11 as the College’s campus chaplain.

Sterling College has named Paul Brandes ’11 as the College’s campus chaplain. Brandes previously served as the executive pastor for Christ Community Church’s Brookside campus in Kansas City, Mo. He began his new role at the College on August 1.
“We are excited to welcome Paul and his family to our campus community. He is highly relational and a great speaker and teacher. Paul will be a role model to our students and an encouragement to all Sterling College Warriors,” said Dr. Scott Rich, president.
