Annual Evening of One Acts

Sterling College Theatre presents six one act plays on Friday, April 11, at 8:00 p.m. in Culbertson Auditorium of Spencer Hall. The evening combines the talent of both experienced and beginner, and involves the collective efforts of over 40 students.

Buchanan – a true Sterling example

As a small, Christian college, every student makes a difference in the life of Sterling College. Perhaps none more so in this year’s senior class than Jake Buchanan. While Jake Buchanan is probably best known as a Warrior football player, he is also an English major, worship leader, actor, mentor and friend to many.
“At every level Jake Buchanan exemplifies exactly who we want our people to be - athletically, academically, socially and spiritually,” explains Warrior Head Football Coach Andy Lambert.

Sam Gonzalez named KCAC Pitcher of the Week

Sterling College junior Samantha Gonzalez was named the KCAC “Pitcher of the Week” after going 2-0 last week and giving up no earned runs in eleven innings pitched. Sterling improved to 19-17-1 overall and 5-8 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference after earning wins over Kansas Wesleyan and the University of Saint Mary last week.

Two Sterling College graduates receive Fran Jabara Leadership Award

Sterling College recognized two graduates for the Outstanding Male and Female Fran Jabara Leadership Awards during its 116th Commencement Exercises. This year’s recipients were Seth Prochaska son of Brett and Rosie of Ada, Kan., and Rachel Dunham daughter of Kirk and Paula of Green River, Utah.

Sterling College graduated 75 seniors at the 116th commencement exercises on Saturday, April 26.
The commencement exercises took place on the east lawn of Cooper Hall. Past ceremonies have taken place at Smisor Stadium, but due to reconstruction, commencement was moved to Cooper. The commencement address was given by Dr. John Silber. A baccalaureate service was held in Culbertson Auditorium on Friday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. Reverend Dr. Steven Marsh gave the baccalaureate message.

Fifty-six to participate in Sterling College mission trips this summer

Fifty-six students will be participating in one of seven Sterling College short-term mission trips taking place this summer. Countries being visited include Belize, Brazil, Croatia, Kenya, Nicaragua and two trips to countries in Asia.
“Our missions program is rapidly growing. We have seven trips going out this summer, which is more than we have ever sent out from Sterling. It is very encouraging to see the tremendous growth our program has experienced over the past six years” said Henry Lederle, director of missions.

Sterling College Hires New VP - Chief Financial Officer

Scott Rich was recently named Sterling College’s Vice President - Chief Financial Officer and will begin his duties July 1.
Rich comes to Sterling College with a strong background in leadership and management. Previously he has worked at Stutzman Greenhouse, Inc., and Foodbrands America, both in Hutchinson. Rich received his associate’s degree from Hutchinson Community College, his bachelor’s degree from The Master’s College in Behavioral Science, and his Masters of Business Administration degree from Liberty University.

New Board Member Elected to SC Board of Trustees

Sterling College elected a new Chair and new Board member to the Board of Trustees during their Spring meeting.
Tony Thompson, a 1969 graduate of Sterling, was elected Chair of the Board. Thompson has been a member of Board of Trustees since 1998 and has served on the Finance and Investment and Board Development Committee.
