Sterling College Graduate Student Isabella Galvez Ortiz of Panama City, Panama, has been selected as the Kansas Athletic Trainers’ Society representative for the MAATA D5 Student Leadership Committee.

“For Isa to be chosen to represent our state within our district is an amazing honor. We are very proud of her,” said Dr. Pete Manely, professor of athletic training and program director of graduate athletic training education.

The MAATA Student Leadership Committee is composed of two athletic training students from each of the states within the district (North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Iowa and Missouri). The committee objectives are to develop leadership, further the athletic training profession through enhanced communication and transparency, promote involvement and increase opportunities for students within the district, and assist in networking between the colleges and universities within the district.

The master’s in athletic training through Sterling College is a two-year program and is currently accepting applicants who have met the admission requirements.. Students can enter the program via two avenues, graduating with a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and also going through Sterling College’s 3+2 program. The 3+2 track is an accelerated program in which the student graduates with a bachelor’s in health science and a master’s in athletic training in five years instead of the traditional six.

In addition to athletic training, Sterling College also offers a graduate program in the Master of Arts in Sports Ministry.
