Sterling College proudly welcomes esteemed alumnus and retired Purdue University professor Dr. Stuart Robertson ’65 for a special presentation on Friday, September 27, at 3 p.m. in the Mabee Library. Dr. Robertson, a 1965 graduate, will share insights from his remarkable academic career and his significant donation of rare books to the College.

This collection, which includes notable works like 17th and 18th-century English translations of Josephus, surpasses holdings at major institutions such as Wheaton and Purdue. Dr. Robertson's gift aims to ignite scholarly passion and support groundbreaking research at Sterling College. The event promises to be a profound experience for attendees interested in the intersections of history, science, religion, and Western heritage.

“It has been a true pleasure getting to know Dr. Stuart Robertson through our correspondence and the incredible collection of books he has so generously donated to the Mabee Library. His passion for knowledge and the rich history he's experienced have allowed me to live vicariously through his adventures. We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Robertson back to Sterling College and we are deeply grateful for the legacy he is helping to build within our academic community.” said Laurel Watney, director of Mabee Library.

Robertson was honored by Sterling College in 2019 when he was awarded the Excellence in Scholarship Award. This award recognizes a Sterling graduate who has excelled in scholarship, in or outside the academy, and encourages learning and study from a biblical worldview.

Robertson is a former pastor, author and former lecturer of Hebrew and religious studies at Purdue University. He was born and grew up in India, where his father taught Greek and other subjects in a theological seminary. As a long-time member of the faculty at Purdue, Robertson has distinguished himself in his writing, speaking and scholarly work about the Jewish historian Flavius Josephus, along with being a leading specialist on the topics of Hebrew Bible, Hellenistic Judaism, the Septuagint and Second Temple Judaism.

Robertson graduated from Sterling with a degree in history. He holds a master’s degree in history from the University of Nebraska and a master’s degree in philosophy of religion from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He received his master of divinity degree in the New Testament from Princeton Theological Seminary. Robertson received his doctorate in Hellenistic Judaism from the Annenberg Research Institute.
