Sterling College hires new manager of alumni and marketing

Tuesday, September 16, 2014

A local alumna of Sterling College joined their Office of Institutional Advancement and External Relations this month. Teryn (Frizell) ’12 Irvin began her role as manager of alumni and marketing on Sept. 2. This newly created role on campus serves both the Office of Institutional Advancement and the Office of Marketing and Communications, striving to build a stronger connection between these two important functions of the College.

As manager of alumni and marketing, Irvin will play a key role in creating innovative publications and marketing that advances Sterling College’s mission and enhances its image and visibility to internal and external target markets. She will coordinate alumni gatherings and Homecoming, work closely with the Alumni and Parent Councils, manage special events, aide in career networking for alumni, educate students about their alumni association, and collaborate with advancement colleagues in increasing support from alumni.

Irvin will also serve in the Office of Marketing and Communications, providing leadership to the continual improvement of marketing and communication initiatives for the College. Her role includes writing, upholding the Sterling College brand, and coordinating social media.

“Teryn brings demonstrated success in marketing and external relations through her experience at Horizons Mental Health Center. She will be a fantastic collaborative partner for me and Courtney Huber ’13, our creative director. Together they will oversee the direction of the Office of Marketing and Communications,” said Scott Carter, vice president for institutional advancement and external relations.

“Teryn is also an integral part of the advancement team. While there are several of us working with alumni, she will be our main point of contact and voice in external publications. We are happy to have her join the team and believe she will serve a key role in improving alumni communications and programs,” said Carter.

Irvin was employed at Horizons Mental Health Center as coordinator of prevention, education and outreach, where she was in charge of internal and external communication strategies including but not limited to marketing, advertising and public relations. She planned community events, prepared grants, wrote informational literature and served as the agency spokesperson. Irvin graduated from Sterling College with a B.S. in Communications in May 2012 and served in her role at Horizons through late July.
