Sterling College has announced the fourth season of the Ross and Fern Freeman Lecture Series for Servant Leadership with speakers Kevin Palau and Dr. Jeff Myers. Palau, president of the Luis Palau Association, will speak on Oct. 27, 2017. The spring 2018 date for Myers, president of Summit Ministries, is April 6.

“Every year our campus community is enriched by the speakers of the Freeman Lecture Series. Kevin Palau and Dr. Jeff Myers are both leaders of unique Christian ministries, and I look forward to hearing the challenge they bring,” said David Landis, vice president for administration and institutional initiatives.

Palau joined the Luis Palau Association in 1985. Under Palau’s leadership, LPA has produced some of the largest Christian events ever staged. To this date, the Luis Palau Association has “shared the Good News of Jesus Christ with 1 billion people around the world through Kevin’s father, evangelist Luis Palau.” Their main technique has been the festival model for mass evangelism, using free, family-friendly celebrations that bring together well-known Christian and mainstream music artists, prominent Christian athletes, extreme sports exhibitions, interactive children’s areas, and much more.

In 2006, Kevin Palau and his team formed a strategic partnership that connects Christian action sports ministries. In 2008, they began the Festival 2.0 model that works with local city officials to host a Season of Service, a massive, area-wide outreach showing the love of Christ through community service projects that meet the city’s greatest needs. The effort has received widespread media coverage in major outlets including USA Today, Reader’s Digest, and PBS’s Religion & Ethics.

Myers is an author, speaker and president of Summit Ministries, an organization devoted to cultivating students and adults to resolutely champion a biblical worldview. Summit Ministries, located near Colorado Springs, hosts summer worldview programs for 16-21 year olds in three locations across the U.S., as well as semester long study for collegiate-level students. Myers began his involvement with Summit Ministries in 1983 when he attended one of their summer camps. Over the years, he has worked as summer staff volunteer, instructor, chairman of Summit’s board of directors, and president. From 1989 to 1995, Dr. Myers headed up the Summit’s curriculum team and founded the eastern U.S. branch of Summit’s youth and adult programs.

In 2006, Myers was part of a team that formed a non-profit organization called Passing the Baton International to turn the attention of Christians around the world to the urgency of preparing future leaders through life-on-life mentoring. To date more than 200,000 people in 1,500 schools, churches, nonprofits and political groups have received intensive training in how to mentor, coach and disciple the rising generation. The boards of Passing the Baton and Summit have unanimously agreed to combine their efforts under Myers’ leadership to unite the messages of biblical worldview, leadership and mentoring across the U.S. and internationally.

Since 2014, The Lecture Series has hosted Ken Blanchard, Danny Wuerffel, Nancy Ortberg, Brian Ivie, Phil Vischer and Dr. Sean McDowell.
