Sterling College announces Barbara Thompson Music Endowed Scholarships
Sterling College has announced the establishment of the Barbara Thompson Music Endowed Scholarship Fund. The endowed scholarships are made possible by a gift from Robert ’45 and the late Barbara “Barbie” (Dietz) ’47 Thompson.
“Bob and Barbie left a profound legacy at the College and in the community. The opportunities these scholarships represent are a testament to their servant hearts,” said Scott Carter, vice president for institutional advancement and external relations.
The endowed scholarships will benefit students who participate in a music program at Sterling College.
Bob served as a math professor and department chair at Sterling College. Barbara gave piano lessons through the College and taught first grade at Sterling Grade School from 1955 to 1967. Both of them impacted students’ lives through their service to the College and the Sterling community.
Upon Barbara’s death in December 2015, Bob decided to honor his wife by establishing the Barbara Thompson Music Endowed Scholarship Fund.
