Sterling College’s Stenulson featured in “Beyond the Surface” art show
Continuing a string of successful exhibitions, David Stenulson, Sterling College assistant professor of art and design, recently had his contemporary drawing selected for the art show “Beyond the Surface” at Red Raven Art Company in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Stenulson’s drawing, “Anatomical Study of a Skull,” is on display for the month of May.
“This show was focused on what the contemporary definition of drawing actually is, and in this case it has been defined as the absence of color. Like the Pastel National Exhibition, drawing shows are more uncommon and it is nice to see exhibitions focusing exclusively on the elements and rich qualities of drawing simply for the sake of drawing,” said Stenulson.
Within the past year, Stenulson’s works have been displayed at Manifest Gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the Pastel National Exhibition in Wichita, Kansas. His drawing “Anatomical Study of a Skull” was completed with black pencil on toned paper and stands 8 inches by 10 inches.
“Beyond the Surface” seeks to highlight drawing as its own art form and the featured artists’ search for deeper understanding. The show was curated by artist Evan Kitson, and it featured over 20 different artists.
