Homecoming activities will begin on Thursday, Oct. 18, with the annual opening night of the Homecoming musical, “Godspell,” at 8 p.m. Special Homecoming activities, in addition to the beloved traditions, have been scheduled this year as part of the 125th anniversary celebration.
For the fifth consecutive year, Sterling College won the Debates on a Plain Invitational. The team also won the Parliamentary Debate portion of the tournament while simultaneously taking first and second in Lincoln-Douglas Debate.
SC Online will launch its new degree, a B.S. in Organizational Management, on Nov. 5. This major is designed to prepare graduates for management and leadership positions in businesses and non-profit organizations and can be completed entirely online.
Peter Ochs, entrepreneur and president at Capital III, Inc., will speak at the 2012 Oscar Schmidt convocation held in Culbertson Auditorium on the campus of Sterling College. After his speech, titled “Enterprise Stewardship: How to Live a High Impact Life,” Ochs will answer questions from the audience. The public event will take place on Friday, Oct. 5, at 10 a.m.
The Sterling College Chorale and SC Concert Choir are rehearsing for the 3rd Annual Composer Festival on Monday, October 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Sterling United Presbyterian Church. The Sterling choirs will sing the music of renowned composer Jackson Berkey, who will be accompanying them on piano.
Classes are well underway and fall enrollment numbers have been finalized. This year’s enrollment at Sterling College is the fifth highest in the school’s 125-year history with 653 students enrolled.
The College is expanding its investment in church relations with the hiring of 2002 alumnae Jennifer Lane as director of ministry teams. Lane is coordinating groups of students to travel to area churches and Christian schools to help with youth groups, children’s ministry, praise and worship and other programming needs.
The Student Government Association is hosting its annual fall blood drive on Friday, September 28, from 12-6 p.m. The event will take place in The Underground Pulse, located in the basement of Evans Hall. The public is invited to participate in this event by donating blood or by volunteering to help hand out snacks or sign in volunteers.
Victory Media named Sterling College to their 2013 Military Friendly Schools list. The list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that exhibit leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience and their spouses.
Our thoughts and prayers are with our fellow ACCK schools, Tabor College and McPherson College. Over the weekend both colleges had students pass away in unrelated events. Please join us as we pray for the friends, families and communities mourning the losses this week and in the days to come.
