The fall season of competition was fruitful for the Sterling College Debate and Forensics Teams, bringing home awards from every tournament, most recently from the Cameron Christmas Classic Tournament hosted by Cameron University in Lawton, Okla., on Dec. 6-8. The three-day tournament, co-hosted by Cameron University and West Texas A&M University included several competitions for both debate and forensics.

Sterling College has announced a new scholarship, The Warrior Way Scholarship. The scholarship offers $16,900 of institutional aid to prospective students who meet the criteria to be awarded. The application is available online and the priority deadline for this scholarship is March 1, 2020.

Sterling College recognized the inaugural class of its Marketplace Excellence Awards Winners during its 2019 Homecoming Weekend.
The Excellence in Business Award was awarded to Jim Brackensick ’79, the Excellence in Ministry Award was awarded to Jim Conway ’54, the Entrepreneurial Award was awarded to Lance Woodbury ’93, the STEM Distinction Award was awarded to Greg Stone ’88, the Excellence in Scholarship Award was awarded to Dr. Stuart Robertson ’65 and the Excellence in Education Award was awarded to Mike Manning ’88.
The Sterling College Criminal Justice program will host Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt.

The Sterling College Criminal Justice program will host Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt, for its keynote lecture on Tuesday, November 12, 2019. The College will host Schmidt at 7 p.m. in Heritage Hall in Cooper Hall. The public is invited to attend this free event.

While it may be hard to picture a circus-style setting to tell the Biblical story of Job, that is exactly what Archibald MacLeish’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play “J.B.” does. Sterling College Theatre will be presenting this rarely seen but widely studied play on Friday-Saturday, November 22-23 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, November 24, at 2 p.m. in Culbertson Auditorium on the Sterling College campus.

The Criminal Justice program at Sterling College hosted its annual career fair on October 24 in the Student Union on the College campus. The event featured law enforcement agencies from Sterling, Hutchinson, Wichita, Overland Park, and McPherson, as well as the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Sterling College recognized its Alumni Award winners for 2019 who were awarded at Homecoming on Oct. 10-12. The Distinguished Service Award was awarded to Robert “Bob” Thompson ’45, the Spirit of Sterling Alumni Award was posthumously awarded to the late Dr. Jamie “JC” Chambers ’83 and to the late Ronald A. Raglin ’84, and the Young Alumni Award was given to Kacie (Rogers) Hastings ’12.

How do you solve a problem like “Cinderella?” Freshening up a traditional storybook fairytale that the world has known and loved for centuries was the challenge facing the production team behind Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. The new Broadway musical version of the cherished classic will be presented by Sterling College Theatre as this year’s Homecoming musical on Thursday-Saturday, October 10-12 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 13, at 2 p.m., in Culbertson Auditorium on the Sterling College campus.

Sterling College faculty attended the CCCU Diversity Conference, which was held at George Fox University, on October 4-5. Dr. Glenn Butner, assistant professor of theology and ministry, Dr. Mark Tremaine, assistant professor of criminal justice, Professor Sia Joung, assistant professor of art and design, and Dr. Rachel Griffis, assistant professor of language and literature and director for the integration of faith and learning, were in attendance.
