Kansas Supreme Court Justice Caleb Stegall to speak at Sterling College
Kansas Supreme Court Justice Caleb Stegall will give a presentation to Sterling College students, employees and guests on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. He will discuss recent developments in criminal law. The public is invited to attend this event, which will take place in Heritage Hall on the third floor of Cooper Hall on the Sterling College campus.
“My primary objective in inviting Justice Stegall to campus is to allow criminal justice majors the opportunity to interact with a Kansas Supreme Court justice and to learn more about the judiciary in Kansas. Students will have the opportunity to have an informal dinner with Justice Stegall prior to his presentation, which would be a great experience for any undergraduate student to have,” said Mark Tremaine, assistant professor of criminal justice.
Stegall was appointed to the Supreme Court in December 2014, following his tenure on the Kansas Court of Appeals. In January 2011, Stegall was named Chief Counsel to the Governor, and in 2010, he was awarded the Kansas Bar Association’s Pro Bono Certificate for his work with American missionaries who had been charged with crimes in Haiti.
Stegall also formed the law firm Stegall & Associates, which specializes in complex constitutional and commercial litigation. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Geneva College and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Kansas School of Law.
