Freeman Lecture Series welcomed Heisman winner Danny Wuerffel

Wednesday, March 18, 2015

Danny Wuerffel, Heisman Trophy winner and executive director of Desire Street Ministries, has received awards, played in the National Football League, written a book and has a long list of additional accomplishments. Yet when he came to speak at the Sterling College Freeman Lecture series on March 6, 2015, his message was about being humble and helping others understand how important and special they are to God.

Wuerffel told a collection of stories to demonstrate how God has continually put him in situations where he learned that his life, with all of the accomplishments and awards, is not any more special than someone else’s life. He learned that a life well-spent focuses on encouraging and building others up, and specifically, to show others how much God cares about them.

Sterling College presented Ross and Fern Freeman of Topeka, Kansas, with a football signed by Wuerffel for their generous donation that makes the Freeman Lecture Series possible. The Freemans had Wuerffel address the football to the Sterling College Athletic Department. Later in the day, Wuerffel signed a second football addressed to the Freemans.
