The annual trip to Lawton, Oklahoma, was fruitful for the Sterling College Debate and Forensics Teams, bringing home eight awards from the Cameron Christmas Classic. The three-day tournament, co-hosted by Cameron University and West Texas A&M University included several competitions for both debate and forensics.
Wes Lowrey of Topeka, Kansas, earned the highest award of the group with first place in impromptu speaking.
All three Sterling College choirs will join together for “Ring the Bells!” on Sunday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m.

All three Sterling College choirs will join together for “Ring the Bells!” on Sunday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m. The Christmas concert held at the Sterling United Presbyterian Church will feature sacred and secular Christmas selections performed by the Sterling College Choir, Lasses and Highland Singers. The public is invited to join this free event.

Amanda Hood from White Oak, Texas, and Scott Evans of Weatherford, Texas, have received the honor of being named Sterling College’s Teachers of Promise for the fall semester. Amanda and Scott were recognized at the Kansas Teacher of the Year Awards Banquet on Nov. 18 in Wichita.

“Christmas(ish) Concert” will celebrate the Christmas season through music from Pixar movies, “Polar Express” and other traditional Christmas favorites on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at Sterling United Presbyterian Church. The concert begins at 3 p.m. and will feature the Sterling College Wind Ensemble. The public is invited to attend this free concert.
The event will include a short presentation by Christian Dashiell and music led by Marisa Callan and the Sterling College choirs

Sterling College will begin the Advent season with Share the Light, a Christmas tree lighting ceremony, on Dec. 3, 2017. Beginning at 7 p.m. on the west side of Cooper Hall, the event will include a short presentation by Chaplain Christian Dashiell and music led by Assistant Professor of Music Marisa Callan and the Sterling College choirs. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in Heritage Hall. Hot chocolate will be served and the public is invited to attend this outdoor celebration.
The inaugural installation ceremony for Kappa Mu Epsilon will take place on Thursday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m. in Heritage Hall

The inaugural installation ceremony for Kappa Mu Epsilon, a national mathematics honor society, at Sterling College will take place on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, at 7 p.m. in Heritage Hall on the third floor of Cooper Hall. Sterling College Assistant Professor of Chemistry Randi Wise successfully defended her dissertation on Nov. 9, earning the title of Dr. Wise with her new degree in biochemistry. She completed her Ph.D. through Kansas State University.

Three Kansas Court of Appeals judges heard oral arguments in Sterling College’s Heritage Hall on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017. The panel heard five cases, and included Judges Kathryn Gardner, Michael Buser and Gordon Atcheson. The judges had lunch with Sterling College students in the criminal justice program and Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice Dr. Mark Tremaine. The Sterling College cast of “All My Sons” will perform Nov. 17-19 in Culbertson Auditorium in Spencer Hall. “All My Sons” follows two families who work for an aeronautical company that was accused of knowingly producing faulty airplane parts that were put into use for World War II. The families now deal with the fallout of the accusations and mourn for their son, a pilot, who is missing in action.

All five of the Sterling College competitors at the Sooner Showdown brought home awards. Junior Wesley Lowrey of Topeka, Kansas, brought home the most awards for Sterling College, finishing in the top six in four competitions. The group traveled to the University of Oklahoma in Norman for the competition between 26 schools Nov. 3-5.
