Sam Rotman, Christian concert pianist, will perform a free concert on Monday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. at Sterling United Presbyterian Church. Rotman will be in town on Monday to lecture students in the music department at Sterling College and has offered to perform a concert followed by his testimony that evening. The public is invited to attend.

Rotman made his debut at the age of 16 with the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra before an audience of 6,000 people. The Baldwin Keynote Magazine wrote, “Sam Rotman is a pianist with abundant potential.” Since then, he has given over 2,400 performances in 58 countries that span from the U.S., to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, South America, Eastern and Western Europe, Southeast Asia, India, China, Russia and South Africa. He has also released four recordings.

Rotman has won many awards and piano competitions, both in the U.S. and Europe. The most prestigious award was that of Laureate Winner in the 4th International Beethoven Competition in Vienna, Austria. Rotman has devoted a specific area of his musical life to the study and performance of the works of Beethoven. He was aired on Public Broadcast System in a special Beethoven concert to celebrate the Beethoven bicentennial in 1970, one of many in a series of Beethoven concerts. He continues to perform the works of Beethoven in recital and with orchestra.

Rotman received his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Julliard School in N.Y.C. He was director of the piano department for almost 20 years and executive director of the D’Angelo School of Music at Mercyhurst College for 10 years. He has also juried several international piano competitions.
