This is a good story for everyone involved," said Sterling College Director of Athletic Training Pete Manely. It's good for SC graduate Kim Elwood '05, who will leave her position as assistant athletic trainer at Sterling College this summer to pursue her master's in athletic training at the University of Oklahoma. It's also good for SC alumnus Jason Coles '09, who just finished his master's at Ohio University and will take Elwood's position. "And it's good for the Sterling College Athletic Training Program," said Manely.

Sterling College Jazz Band on Tour May 1-4

From Ozark, Mo., to Broken Arrow, Okla., the Sterling College Jazz Band will be making a joyful noise May 1-4 during their spring tour. The Jazz Band will perform at churches, schools and retirement homes, with a program that includes popular numbers as well as hymn arrangements of "All Creatures of Our God and King," "Trust and Obey," and "Standing on the Promises."

John Harding named Head Volleyball Coach

Sterling College Athletic Director Andy Lambert announces today the hiring of John Harding as head volleyball coach for the Lady Warriors.

 Harding comes to Sterling College from Cordova High School in Cordova, Alaska, where he has led the Wolverines for nine seasons. Under his leadership the team went to the Alaska State Championships eight times; finishing as champions in 2005, 2006, 2007, runner-up in 2002, 2003, 2004 and third place in 2008.

Rev. Dr. Michael Andrus to Deliver Sterling College’s Baccalaureate Address on May 14

The Reverend Dr. Michael Andrus, lead pastor of First Evangelical Free Church of Wichita, will speak at Sterling College's Baccalaureate service on Friday, May 14, at 7:30 in Culbertson Auditorium. His message is titled "The Other Parable of the Two Sons."

Dr. Joe McFarland to Give Sterling College Commencement Address on May 15

Sterling College alumnus Dr. Joe McFarland will speak at the College's 118th Commencement ceremonies at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, on Cooper Hall-East Lawn at the Sterling College campus. He will address the 123 graduating seniors and their families and friends with a speech titled "Gambatte."

McFarland has a long association with both the town of Sterling and the College. He graduated from Sterling High School, earned his bachelor's degree from Sterling College, served as a College trustee for 20 years, and was awarded an honorary doctorate from the College in 1992.

Senior Produces Worhip CD Featuring SC Praise Band

Ideally, senior projects should reflect the full range of a student's education. In Sterling College senior Matt Ehresman's case, that should have been nearly impossible. "I created my own major," he said, "graphic communications. I minored in youth ministry and I also took some business and music classes-I thought they might be useful."

Sterling College Urban Ministry Class Provides Hands-on Opportunities

When students entered the Urban Ministry class at Sterling College this past spring, they may not have expected to get much field experience. After all, Sterling College is in Sterling, Kans., a town of only 2500 people. Knowing this, however, Dr. Craig Smith, the professor teaching the course, arranged for a field trip-to World Impact's "Encounter the City" conference in Wichita.

Sterling College's Assessment Results in Best Reaccreditation Terms since 1977

For colleges, the official news that they have been approved for reaccreditation is much like the diplomas their students receive during graduation: the "piece of paper" stands for a lot of hard work.
But it also symbolizes progress and success, which is why, when Sterling College's President Dr. Paul J. Maurer announced last week that the College had received an official 10-year reaccreditation, he said, "This is a truly significant moment for Sterling College. Join me in giving thanks to God for his goodness."
