Sterling College announced Justin Morris ’00 has been named director of athletic operations, effective December 1. Morris currently serves as the assistant athletic director and head women’s soccer coach.
“We are pleased to have Justin in this valuable role in our athletic department in his new position as director of athletic operations. He has a strong record of dedication to Sterling College, is a proven relationship builder on and off campus and trains our student-athletes to be servant leaders,” said Dr. Scott A. Rich, president.

Six Sterling College debate and forensics students traveled for their second intercollegiate forensics tournament this season. Junior Joseph Bahr of Harker Heights, Texas, brought home the most awards for Sterling College, finishing in the top five in four competitions. The group traveled to Carl Albert State College in Poteau, Okla., for the competition between nine schools Nov. 2-3.
The Sterling College English Department hosted its first Writing Workshop Weekend for high school students.

The Sterling College English Department hosted its first Writing Workshop Weekend for high school students on November 2-3. The event spanned two days with a poetry slam on Friday, followed by workshops on Saturday. The Saturday workshops were led by Sterling College Assistant Professor of Language and Literature Aaron Brown and Wichita-based writer Luke Gilstrap.

A contemporary play that has been compared to a Hitchcock-like suspense is next in this year’s Sterling College Theatre season. That show is “The Small Room at the Top of the Stairs” by Canadian playwright Carole Frechette which will be staged Friday and Saturday, November 16 and 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, November 18 at 2 p.m. in Culbertson Auditorium on the Sterling College campus.

Two Sterling College forensics students traveled to the Missouri Mule Invitational for their first tournament this season. Junior Joseph Bahr of Harker Heights, Texas, brought home the most awards for Sterling College, finishing in the top six in three competitions. The group traveled to the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg for the competition between 21 schools Oct. 19-24.
The first Sterling College concert of the year will be accompanied by guest composer Heather Sorenson as the ninth performance in the annual Composer Series.

The first Sterling College concert of the year will be accompanied by guest composer Heather Sorenson as the ninth performance in the annual Composer Series. The concert, consisting of songs composed and arranged by Sorenson, will take place Monday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. at the Sterling United Presbyterian Church. The event is free and open to the public.

Sterling College Online Learning has been named to the 2019 Best Online Colleges in Kansas. The ranking considered salary potential and tuition rates and was published by SR Education Group. Sterling College was placed in the number one position, ranking favorably among the likes of other institutions named to the list including the University of Kansas, Wichita State University, Emporia State University, among others.

The second annual Theology and Ministry Department Fall Conference at Sterling College will take place Thursday, October 25 at 7 p.m. in Heritage Hall. This year’s conference is themed “Markets and Moral Formation,” with plenary speaker Christina McRorie, assistant professor of ethics at Creighton University. The evening will include two faculty presentations titled “The Protestant Work Ethic: A Necessary Affirmation for the Next Generation of Christian Employees,” and “If you Give a Mouse a Cookie: Incentives and Virtue Ethics.” The public is invited to all presentations.
