The Sterling College Missions Department is sending nearly 100 students and employees out on overseas mission trips this summer. Countries that will be visited this year include: East Asia, Nepal, Philippines, Ukraine, India (two trips), Ghana, Guatemala, St. Lucia and Fiji.
Sterling College recently recognized 87 students for their accomplishments for the 2010-2011 academic school year. These students were presented with their honors at the annual Honor’s Convocation held on April 29. Listed are the students who received awards and scholarships:
Sterling, Kan. - The Sterling College Women's 4x800 meter relay team will be travelling to Marion, IN on March 24th to compete at the NAIA Track & Field Championships hosted on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University. Relay members consist of Whitney Dautel, Jessica Stuart, Jillian Linnebur and Julie Penner. The relay team qualified for the National Championships with their time of 9:32.3 ran at the 50th Southwestern Relays back on April 30th, which was also a school record.
Addie Swihart of St. Francis, Kan., and Kenny McGrath of Apple Valley, Calif., were named the Outstanding Students and recipients of the Fran Jabara Leadership Award for the Sterling College class of 2011. They were awarded this honor at the 2011 commencement ceremony held on May 14, 2011 at Cooper Hall.
Long-time Sterling College Senior Associate Professor of Business Kathy Glynn was bestowed with Faculty Emeritus of Business status during the College’s commencement exercises on Saturday, May 14, at Cooper Hall. Glynn has taught at Sterling College since 1987; she retired following the conclusion of the 2010-11 academic year.
Ken Troyer, assistant professor of communication and director of forensics at Sterling College, was awarded the McCreery Teaching Award during the College’s commencement exercises on Saturday, May 14, at Cooper Hall.
Sterling College has elected Pam Irwin Head as a member of its Board of Trustees. Head will begin her service with the spring board meeting held during the College’s commencement weekend May 12-13. Head, of Wichita, Kan., has most recently served as the Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross Blood Services from 2000-2009.
Wichita, Kan. – Five Sterling College Lady Warrior softball players earned All Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Honors in the 2011 softball season that saw SC struggle with injuries. In 2011, the Lady Warriors finished eighth in the KCAC with a 4-12 conference record, 15-32 overall.
Wichita, Kan. – The 2011 Sterling College Lady Warrior softball team finished the season with an overall record of 15-32, 4-12 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. In the KCAC Softball Championship Tournament, the Lady Warriors went 1-2, winning their first game before being eliminated with two straight losses.
Wichita, Kan. – Sterling College’s seniors Wes Tramble and Andrew Archbold brought home multiple Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) baseball awards to headline a total of eight Warriors earning honors from the conference.
