Athletics earns highest ranking in KCAC schools

Monday, June 17, 2013

As all NAIA championships have been completed and the spring season comes to a close, the final standings for the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup have been announced. Three KCAC members were listed in the Top-100 of the Directors' Cup standings, released Friday, June 14 by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). Sterling topped the three schools, ranking 78th in the NAIA, a full 16 places ahead of the nearest conference opponent.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup honors institutions maintaining a broad-based athletic program, achieving success in many sports, both men's and women's. Starting in 1993-94 for Division I by NACDA and USA Today, it was expanded in 1995-96 to include Division II, III and the NAIA.

Institutions earn points for the success of their athletic teams in postseason play in up to 12 sports (six women's and six men's.). The overall points leader will be crowned champion for having the highest amount of points in their division.
