To create a space that allows for employees and students of all ethnic backgrounds to feel embraced and encouraged during their time at Sterling College.
Discriminatory actions, or microaggressions will be addressed by a Diversity Leadership Committee composed of different staff personnel and students who will follow a protocol to ensure fairness and equity.
These standards are set to lead towards forgiveness and reconciliation between groups.
The Vision of the Diversity Office is:
To instill a culture of unity among employees and students at Sterling College.
We hope to create a culture that…
Allows for a sense of curiosity when exploring and embracing cultures different from our own
Instills a sense of hospitality to all the saints as encouraged by Romans 12:13 “Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality” (ESV).
Encourages cultural savviness for both SC employee’s & students while prioritizing individual accountability when confronting racial injustices & biases that manifest themselves at SC.
Core Values (as outlined by Micah 6:8):
Acting Justly:
Recognizing injustice AND being courageous enough to DO something about it.
Ensuring equitable measures of inclusivity in each department.
Loving Mercy:
Pertinent to those who have committed an offense and extending forgiveness to them.
Having a plan to move forward and having steps to recovery & reconciliation.
Walking Humbly:
Recognizing that God will guide us and will impart discernment.
Actively seeking a relationship with God, without whom we would not be able to love our neighbor (1 John 4:19).
Actively seeking personal accountability when learning how to treat the saints & image bearers around us.
