Sterling College Hosts Homecoming October 16-18

Sterling College will welcome alumni and friends to campus for the annual Homecoming festivities on Saturday, October 18. The Sterling community is invited to participate in the day’s events as well.
New this year is the first annual “Run with the Warriors” 5K run, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the McCreight Track. Those wishing to participate in this run can contact Jack Dillard at 620-278-4224.
The traditional Homecoming parade will begin at 10 a.m. at the Sterling Farmer’s Co-op and travel north to Washington street and then past the Presbyterian Manor. Honoring them for their years of service, Diane DeFranco-Kling, who has taught at SC for 37 years and Gordon Kling, who has taught for 40 years, will be the grand marshal and grand marshallette of the Parade. Homecoming candidates Whitney Fuller, Sterling, Shannon Kirby, Arvada, Colo., Amberli Todd-Walker, Sterling, Melissa Yarrow, Clay Center, and David Fuller, Miltonvale, Joel Orr, Wray, Colo., Nate Prior, Norco, Cali., and Ben Swihart of St. Francis will also be a part of the parade. The Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during halftime of the football game.
The dorms, formally known as X and Y, are going to be dedicated as “Douglas Men” and “Douglas Women” at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
A Homecoming Hangout with items of interest for all ages will be located on the Tennis Courts from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. In addition to food items available for sale, there will also be music, arts and crafts, and activities for kids, including games, face painting, inflatables and a petting zoo provided by Hedricks Animal Farm, Nickerson. The petting zoo is free of charge and will have a wide assortment of animals. Proceeds earned from the fair go to support the organizations and groups participating in the fair.
Sterling College’s Homecoming musical, Fiddler on the Roof, will run Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 16-18, at 8 p.m. in Culbertson Auditorium. All tickets are reserved and are available on the Sterling College website—www.sterling.edu/alumni—or by calling the Sterling College Box Office at 278-4279. Box Office hours are 1-5 p.m. October 13-17 and 7-8 p.m. October 20-22. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students/children/seniors 65 and over. Reservations not paid for by 7:50 p.m. on the night of the reservation will be subject to release for general sale.
