Donation benefits theatre and sciences

Spencer Hall will undergo renovations this summer courtesy of an anonymous donation to Sterling College. The primary purpose of the donation is to upgrade the seating in Culbertson Auditorium with remaining funds given to the science department for lab equipment needs.

“We are very grateful for this donation and are excited to make a significant upgrade to Culbertson and our science department,” said Scott Rich, interim president. “The seating in Culbertson was installed around 30 years ago and with our active theatre, chapel and convocation schedules, it has gone through significant wear and tear. The new seating will significantly improve the atmosphere in the theatre.”

Sterling College hopes to complete the project in 2013.

The remaining funds will go toward the science department to upgrade lab equipment for physics, chemistry and biology. Lab equipment will be decided on once the final cost of the theatre seats is known.

“The donors are wonderful examples of humility and generosity,” said Dr. Marvin Dewey, vice president for institutional advancement. “They have a love for Sterling College and truly gave from their heart.”
