“An Autumn Fanfare” Band Concert set for November 3

Thursday, October 30, 2008

On Monday, November 3, 7:00pm, a variety of music will once again fill Culbertson Auditorium as the Sterling Community/Sterling College Concert Band presents “An Autumn Fanfare”. In addition to the concert band, the event will feature the Sterling College Jazz Band and the premiere performance of the Sterling College Flute Choir under the direction of Jennifer Kirk, Flute Instructor.
The Flute Choir is the latest addition to the department’s ensembles having been rehearsing only since early September. “We are very excited about performing,” said Kirk. “Our members are both students and community members, so more members are welcome. A flute choir is a unique sound once an alto and bass flute are added. In this concert, we’ll have an alto flute to add depth to an otherwise treble sound.”
The Concert Band, under the direction of Prof. Blair Martin, Director of Bands, combines Sterling College students and community members. “The ensemble is stronger than ever,” Martin said. “We have a better balance this year, and the audience will hear music that is challenging for the band yet highly entertaining.” The hour-long concert is free and open to the public.
