New faculty join Sterling College | August 6, 2014

The fall semester brings five new faculty to the campus of Sterling College - Dr. Farai Kwaramba, Jeremy Labosier, Dr. Brian Mills, Mark Tremaine and Rachel Wannamaker.

“Our new faculty members bring energy and excitement to the beginning of the academic year. They are ready to challenge their students, and I look forward to seeing the results of students benefiting from their instruction,” said Dr. Gregory P. Kerr, vice president for academic affairs.

KCAC Sports Management Conference hosted at Sterling College | August 6, 2014

Over 250 coaches, athletic administrators, trainers and sports information directors gathered at Sterling College for the 2014 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Sports Management Conference. The Aug. 5 meeting included a keynote address from national speaker Rod Olson, known as Coach “O”. The day also held a State of the Conference address by Commissioner Scott Crawford, conference awards and informational meetings.

New Staff Members Join the SC Team | July 23, 2014

The Office of Admissions and Sterling College Online welcomed new staff members this month. Kaylee Looney, admissions counselor for SCO, and Mackenzie McGuire ’14, admissions communications coordinator, began their duties last week.

Looney will be in charge of recruiting students for SCO. She has a B.S. in Sociology and Public Relations from the University of Central Arkansas.  

New Role for Cureton at Sterling College | July 11, 2014

Luke Cureton ’03 is returning to Sterling College’s Office of Institutional Advancement as the director of development for annual programs.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Luke to the team. His 21-year affiliation with Sterling will prove beneficial to building relationships with alumni and friends that will lead to increased giving,” said Scott Carter, vice president for institutional advancement and external relations.

Anonymous $150,000 gift for scholarships received | July 9, 2014

An anonymous donor has significantly influenced future Sterling College students by giving $150,000 to the endowed scholarship fund for future scholarships.

“These friends strongly believe in the College and its importance to the Sterling community. They feel blessed by God and wanted to bless the College and keep it strong. The funds will go into the general scholarship endowment, thereby helping provide funds for student scholarships in the future,” said Dr. Marvin Dewey, associate vice president for leadership giving and special projects.

SC connections draw in new staff | July 9, 2014

Sterling College announced the hire of Renard Ballard ’14 and Erica Tremaine during the month of July. Ballard will begin as assistant resident director of Kilbourn Hall in mid-July, and Tremaine began her role as the administrative receptionist and office manager July 1.

Oklahoma Wesleyan to Join KCAC in Fall 2015 | June 27, 2014

The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) announces Oklahoma Wesleyan University has accepted an invitation for membership. The Eagles will begin KCAC competition starting in Fall 2015. The KCAC Board of Presidents voted to extend the invitation to Oklahoma Wesleyan during their June 4, 2014 meeting in Ottawa, Kansas.

18th annual Sterling College Warrior Wood and Wedge Tournament | June 27, 2014

The Sterling Athletic Department hosted the 18th annual Sterling College Warrior Wood and Wedge Tournament in North Newton, Kan. at the beautiful Sand Creek Station golf course on Monday, June 23rd.

New Trustee Leadership Named | June 24, 2014

The Sterling College Board of Trustees elected Randy Henry ’72 as chair of the Board, Glennys Doane ’73 as vice chair and Joe Lang ’66 as secretary during their May meeting. The new positions took effect during the last session of the May Board meeting.

Henry has served on the Board of Trustees since 1983. He has served as Board secretary and vice chair of the finance and investment committee.

SC receives Community Grant from the South Central Community Foundation | June 19, 2014

The South Central Community Foundation in Pratt, Kan., awarded Sterling College with a grant to purchase an Epson 3880 printer. The grant was awarded in November 2013 and the Department of Art and Design first used the printer for the annual Juried Student Show. The Department of Art and Design has relied heavily on the printer this past year.
