Professor Emeritus Dr. Craig Gannon Passed Away | September 3, 2014

Professor Emeritus of British Literature Dr. Craig Arlen Gannon, 75, of McPherson, Kan., passed away on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014 in Wichita, Kan. Gannon taught British literature and the honors section of freshman composition for many years. He and his wife, Judi, also took students to England for a Literary London course where students visited historical landmarks such as Shakespeare’s birthplace, C.S. Lewis’ writing desk and Jane Austen’s home.

SC professor co-authors book on debate | September 2, 2014

Director of the nationally ranked Sterling College debate and forensics team, Ken Troyer, has co-authored a book with two of his fellow debate directors. The Sterling College assistant professor’s textbook, “Argumentation and Debate: A Strategic Perspective,” is published through Linus Publications and is now being used for fall communication classes at a handful of colleges and universities.

Former Interim President Dr. Albert Anderson Dies | September 2, 2014

Sterling College’s Former Interim President Dr. Albert Anderson passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, after a brief illness. Anderson was 86.

From 2003-05, Dr. Anderson served as the interim president following President Ed Johnson’s departure. Prior to his naming, Dr. Anderson served as Sterling College’s vice president for academic affairs.

“Beau Jest” opens theatre season at Sterling College | August 27, 2014

Directed by Sterling community member Samantha Kennedy, “Beau Jest” will begin the theatre season at Sterling College on Friday, Aug. 29, at 8 p.m. The romantic comedy by James Sherman will take place in Culbertson Auditorium Aug. 29 and 30 with the box office opening at 7 p.m., doors opening at 7:30 p.m., and the play beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are available on show nights and will cost $10 for adults and $5 for students, children and seniors.

Sterling College helps students and alumni in job search | August 27, 2014

Finding a job can be a daunting task, and Sterling College graduates have a new place to turn for inside connections. SC began partnering with College Central Network, Inc., a job seeking network, in August, allowing employers to post jobs and internships for SC alumni and students.

Henry, Dutton ’82 and Ver Steeg Honored for Years of Service | August 26, 2014

Helen Henry, Mary Ver Steeg and Dennis Dutton were honored at the Kickoff Banquet on Aug. 4 for their years of service to Sterling College.

Helen Henry, assistant to the business office, began serving Sterling College under former president Dr. William M. McCreery in 1945. Through different roles on campus, Henry has served the employees and students of the College for over 45 years.

ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Comes to Sterling College | August 25, 2014

Social Media has been buzzing with the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The Challenge has helped raise awareness and financial support of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease or ALS. 

5 Years of Service awards given at Sterling College | August 19, 2014

Three employees were recognized for five years of service to Sterling College during the annual Kickoff Banquet on Monday, Aug. 4. Lesa Plinske, Dr. Marvin Dewey and Will Teufel completed their fifth year at Sterling over the 2013-14 academic year.

Plinske has worked as a housekeeper for the Service Department. She is in charge of the upkeep and care for Campbell Hall, Douglas Residences, Evans Hall, Wilson Hall, and the Art and Media Center.

10 year service awards given at Sterling College | August 19, 2014

Jack Dillard ’03, Renee Dodson, Andy Lambert and Chuck Lambert completed 10 years of service to Sterling College. They were recognized for their service at Sterling College’s Kickoff Banquet on Monday, Aug. 4.

Dillard has served as head coach for the men’s and women’s cross country and track teams for twelve seasons.

Four employees reached milestones in their careers at Sterling College and were recognized at the annual Kickoff Banquet on Monday, Aug. 4. Justin Morris ’00, Felicia Squires, Rick Winters and Lynn Valentine have each served the College for 15 years.
